Donations are recommended and encouraged. \nHarpists Anna Smith and Brynn Olden\, who together comprise Calypso Harp Duo\, bring harp music into communities on the East Coast. Both members are currently studying harp at Shenandoah Conservatory. Performing concerts and local events\, their vision is to provide accessible ways to enjoy harp music. \n

Times Union Hudson Valley article. \nRundgren’s Spirit of Harmony Foundation will partner with Hungry for Music to conduct a musical instrument drive\, encouraging people to donate used musical instruments that will be refurbished and distributed to children in the Hudson Valley area and around the country. \nFor the drive\, instruments may be dropped off at the Woodstock Town Hall (47 Comeau Drive) or The Woodstock Studios (100 Tinker St.) during normal business hours Oct. 1-23. Donated instruments must be in working condition or repairable. No pianos or full-sized keyboards will be accepted.

DESCRIPTION:Hungry for Music and the Pittsburgh Federation of Teachers are presenting a Music Education Celebration from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday\, Oct. 22\, featuring performances from Pittsburgh public school students and teachers\, area musicians and PFT artists. The event also offers interested children a chance to try various instruments\, a music-related book giveaway\, food trucks\, even more free books for all ages\, and more. \nThe Music Education Celebration will also include an Instrument Amnesty Day in which public school students are invited to turn in a school instrument that had been borrowed but perhaps forgotten\, no questions asked. \nThe Kappa Kappa Psi fraternity for University of Pittsburgh band members is holding an instrument drive through Oct. 29\, and students from Duquesne and Carnegie Mellon universities will volunteer at the Celebration event. Hungry for Music founder and director Jeff Campbell will be networking that week with other local music program leaders to maximize each organization’s outreach. \nThe event also marks a new partnership between Hungry for Music\, which is on a national tour to establish chapters in several U.S. cities\, and the American Federation of Teachers. The book giveaway is part of the AFT’s Reading Opens the World campaign. Just as Hungry for Music spreads the joy of music throughout the world\, Reading Opens the World strives to spread the joy of reading by providing 1 million books for families\, classrooms and educators.

DESCRIPTION:Hungry for Music\, along with Louisville Public Media’s Instrumental Partners and Love City\, is holding a Back-to-School Family Fun Day at the St. Cecilia campus at 2519 Saint Cecilia St. in Louisville\, KY. \nThe event will offer music on stages at Porkland BBQ\, in the historic church sanctuary and in outdoor space shaded by the campus’ mighty oaks. Hungry for Music will hold an instrument drive and instrument petting zoo and Instrumental Partners will add hands-on music-making activities for kids and families. \nCommunity groups\, such as Portland Museum\, will have booths and there will be lots of play activities (inflatables\, face painting)\, food and snow cones. Youth with the River City Drum Corps and other groups\, plus local musicians\, will perform and DJ Always (aka River City Drum Corps director Albert Shumake) will spin tunes.

DESCRIPTION:Co-presented by Gabriel Music Society and Motor City S.T.E.A.M Foundation (MCSF)\, Family Fun Day will take place July 16\, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.\, at Durfee Innovation Society. \nHungry for Music will hold an instrument drive at the event and continuing through July 20. The Gabriel Brass Band and the youth ensemble Earfood will provide live music\, and DJ Al Wu will spin tunes. \nKids activities will include a bounce house\, gaming truck and hands-on science/art activities provided by MCSF. \nThe Gabriel Music Society is a nonprofit dedicated to preserving the Gabriel family musical and cultural legacy that stretches over six generations and promotes music education and performance for local youth. The organization has worked with Hungry for Music for more than seven years\, assisting hundreds of music students with instruments and workshops in metro Detroit. \nMCSF provides Science\, Technology\, Engineering\, Art and Mathematics educational programs and opportunities for minority and underprivileged students. The organization’s goal is to increase the number of minority students pursuing higher education degrees in the STEM fields while infusing art and creativity into each learning experience.
